Dublin is no longer to be a free wifi city!

Dublin City Council has u-turned on a decision to make Dublin a free wifi city. The project estimated at costing 27 million would have provided free wifi access to a blanket area that would take in the city centre and outlining areas. However a spanner in the form of the EU was promptly thrown in the works stating that it was contrary to EU Law on State Aid!

D.C.C. still intends to provide free broadband on a test basis to Ballymun and Ballyfermot where there is a lack of coverage. Whoop di fuckin’ do!

Obviously the Council would’ve had heat off the many telecommunications providers who charge over the odds to customers for wireless services (gosh dammit the American way!).

What some of you might not know is that wireless access is available in all Dublin City Council libraries and most public buildings. And I think I should let readers know this blogger is greatly indebted to the Fingal County Council’s library service without which the use of the free internet service to its members, this blog wouldn’t be published!
