get ready for the roasting..

Today wasnt a bad day in work at all, i can feel it now, people are ringing me and wishing me the best in the new job. Got the word around for my few drinks tomorrow, should be a good turnout and a good laugh. i tell ya i am going to miss the office and the people. We were just remembering a few of the laughs we had with the temp staff during the summer.

Asked a load of the lads from the depot, the delivery guys and the foreman. I doubt that many of them will go, they don’t like to socialise really with the administration crew. Either way they wished me the best.

Last night i got a phone call off one of the higher up guys in the Unit, informing me that i may possibly be the fall guy for tonights talk with the CO. He told me not to worry about it just get on with it and take whatever they throw at me. He said it might go on file and could effect promotions, i.e. be brought up at an interview for courses etc.

I have to say i didnt sleep too much last night worrying about the whole thing but nothing i can do now but sit back and let what happens happens. He did say in my defence that the officer will have a file on front of him that shows that i turn up for everything and he knows that i have a first class attendance.

I’ll have to let you know tomorrow how it all went however!

In a spot of bother with the aul greens. Got a message i have to stand tall before the big man tomorrow but i thought i was the only person to get it, aparantly there are more which i dont feel too bothered with anymore. Its about the mess of orienteering that went on at the weekend. I dont know why im being called in about it, i found out at the last second i was entered in it , of course i was down in Galway when i found out so i did agree to be back for it but in the end i didnt so aparantly the person who was supposed to pick up a few of the lads and bring them in slept in! Now why they want to talk to me about it i’ll never know, well i’ll have a fair idea now after tomorrow night!

On the up side i went to sus out the gym beside my new job in blanchardstown, my god it was one of the nicest looking places i’ve seen in a long time! it makes the gym im a member at the moment look like a complete DUMP! As soon as i came back i rang up with the credit card details and got my membership. Machines and Weights a plenty and theres a lovely looking 25 meter pool there. Im really glad now and i hope i stick at it enough through the year. All of a sudden im half looking forward to going to this new job, the excitement is kicking in!

A+ Hell

I dunno if i blogged the fact that i passed my A+ hardware exam, was a tough enough exam , really put the effort in though on the study the day before and got a decent enough pass. I was well relieved by the whole thing, only one guy failed out of the class, a quiet enough guy whos been in IT a fair few years. Everyone was fairly shocked, in the end of the day you can be pretty great at your job but when it comes to the theory end of things you can easily fall down into the rut of bad habits and short-cuts.

Next Monday week i have my second exam, the Software side of it. Now we had the same 6 days training for it but i have to say the trainer was a shadow of the man we had for Hardware. He kinda reminded me of David Brent from the office, he was a very intelligent kinda guy but in the end he was always tryin to be funny and make us laugh. He barely covered any of the content and didnt use the book more than twice. He introduced us to a load of 3rd party programs like DAMEware and VM ware and the use of virtual machines, its as if he was selling us the idea!

Bottom line is that we have the exam in a couple of weeks and im only after getting my hands on some test questions from TestKing off a girl in my class and at first glance a lot of it is new to me! Where as i had an idea of the hardware modules and some of the class info stuck with me absoloutly NOTHING has clicked when i look at these questions…

There’s some hard study ahead! :-\

The final Countdown (hum tune)

That was my last Monday working in this department, it’s begining to kick in now that i’m on my way out. I’ve looked into getting myself membership of the gym that’s next to the new offices im moving to. There’s a special deal for 325 euro for the year which works out dandy, i’ve heard good things about the place and i’m sure it won’t be mad busy for the lunch times.

Still no word about what section i’ll be working in when i get there but the boss here is trying to sus it out for me. Sent out my email to everyone in the office about a few beers this Friday, planning on heading out for a few bevvies after work on Friday and then i have to go to a "surprise" 40th that night, one of the lads in the army is having it , i cant imagine that i’l be in a fit shape by the time i get there, having started drinking at 4.30 in the day!

I suppose i better start concentrating on cleaning up my desk, you can normally not make out the wood on the desk so il have to partake in some tactical filing , i.e. throwing a loada gear in the bin! Let the games begin…

Can’t beat the clean ones!

George Bush goes to a primary school to talk about the war.
After his talk he offers question time. One little boy puts up his
hand and George asks him What his name s. "Billy."
"And what is your question, Billy?"
"I have 3 questions. First, why did the USA invade
Iraq without the support of the UN? Second, why are you
President when Al Gore Got more votes? And third, whatever happened to Osama Bin

Just then the bell rings for recess. George Bush informs
the kiddies that they will continue after recess.
When they resume George says, "OK, where were we? Oh
that’s right – question time. Who has a question?"
Another little boy puts up his hand. George points him
Out and asks him what his name is.
"And what is your question, Steve?"
"I have 5 questions. First, why did the USA invade
Iraq without the support of the UN? Second, why are you
President when Al Gore Got more votes?
Third, whatever happened to Osama Bin Laden? Fourth,
Why did the recess bell go 20 minutes early?
And fifth, what the f—happened to Billy?"

Wednesday we took some time off work and drove down to stay in Galway for a couple of nights. We got a special deal in the Great Southern Hotel on Eyre Square for the two nights. It had been about 5 years since i was down in Galway with the lads, the place hasnt changed much bar the fact that they are ripping the whole of Eyre Square up. The pubs and restraunts are exactly the same, well as i remember anyhow!

Needless to say a geansaĆ load of pints was had and we went exploring up the coast of Galway and enjoying the break. On the last day we decided to drive down to Lahinch in Co Clare and stay another night, i had spent a lot of holidays as a kid there and thought it was a fairly good spot! We took in all the sights on the way down to Clare, the Ailwee Caves and a couple of ancient sites dotted around the Burren, very much doing the touristy thing! Lahinch is very much a season town, with a championship golf course and a lovely beach but the other parts of the town are a bit run down, things are never as you remember them as a kid! We stayed in a hotel that resembled fawlty towers and just went out and had a rake of pints and a walk along the prom.

A nice break overall and was relaxed when i came back, i was a bit down at having to use the annual leave up but in the end ya need to take a breather once every now and then! I definitly will be headin off down the country a bit more, its not a cheap hobby but takes the hassle out of having to book with travel agents etc.

near the final lap

Tomorrow im off for a couple days, im going to Galway to use up some of my Annual Leave in work, also to get a bit of a break before i start in my new job. It’s begining to hit me now about my new job, when i come back from Galway i’ll only have one week left in the office here and then i’m starting in my new job in Blanchardstown.

I have started to arrange my leaving do for Friday week, few of us are heading out to the local for a few pints. It’s funny how you think when your leaving, you begin to wonder what the people you worked with really think of you. It’s all well to say well we’ll miss you but we’ll they be thanking their lucky stars that i’m gone? Will the place be a bit more dull for me leaving? It’s hard to tell…i know one thing, for all the fuss they make out of your role in an office, as soon as your gone they just get some other pleb to replace you. Some people in the place i work in are convinced that the whole pace will fall down around them if they dont show up or are away, this couldnt be further than the truth, i learned this very early on working here.

I will probably be talking over the next few posts on this about how i’m feeling leading up to being transfered, i know it isn’t a big deal, but already i am beigining to feel nervous in a ‘first day at school’ kind of way. But i also know that the change of environment and people i deal with on a day to day basis will be exciting and fresh. Where it goes from there is anyones guess…
